Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral from my doctor to start physical therapy?
No, no referral is needed to start PT! Massachusetts is a Direct Access state for physical therapy. This means patients can seek evaluation and treatment from a licensed physical therapist without a referral from their doctor.
You may however need a physician's referral for your insurance reimbursement needs, which you can check with your insurance provider.
What forms of payment do you take?
We accept cash, credit card, venmo or check at time of service. There will be no hidden costs or suprise bills. You may also use your HSA/FSA card for payment.
Do you accept my insurance?
Claire Jackson PT is an “out-of-network provider”. This allows for higher quality care which is not dictated by insurance. Duration of visits, length of care needed, and treatment techniques used in sessions are unrestricted by insurance. This generally allows for faster clinical outcomes, decreased frequency of visits and decreased cost of unnecessary visits (including time, travel costs and frequent co-pays).
We do provide detailed receipts called “superbills” that can be applied to flexible spending accounts or toward out-of-network deductibles. Generally “PPO” insurance providers have an “out of network” benefit. This means many clients get partial reimbursement from their health insurance/HSA (up to 80% but this varies depending on your provider).
Is there a cancellation/ no show policy?
We ask that you provide at least 24hrs notice if you need to cancel your appointment. We do charge a fee for late cancellations ($50) and no-show appointments (full price of service). This helps allow for all patients to be scheduled at their desired frequency.
Is there an extra cost for dry needling?
No, there are no extra/hidden costs for dry needling. Dry needling is an advanced treatment which uses thin, sterile, monofilament needles which are inserted into muscles to decrease pain and myofascial restrictions/ trigger points. Many offices charge extra for this advanced service but at Claire Jackson PT it can be included in your treatment session if your therapist deems it is clinically appropriate.
What should I expect from my first visit?
We start by discussing the history of your current complaint along with your past medical history to get a thorough background. We will also discuss your goals and expectations to ensure treatment is tailored towards these goals. We will then perform a detailed musculoskeletal assessment and functional movement screen to get to the root of your complaint. There is still time on initial assessment to start hands-on treatment and provide you with any corrective exercises needed to get started on your healing journey.
