All Gender Pelvic Floor Therapy in a Discrete Environment in Natick

Claire Jackson PT has specialty training in pelvic health rehab for all genders with over 20 years of experience between Joy and Claire. Claire and Joy are passionate about treating pelvic health conditions as they believe these are generally underserved in the traditional health care setting. The team at Claire Jackson PT provides individualized care in a comfortable, discrete environment. All pelvic health conditions should be treated using a whole body approach and assessment should be thorough including an assessment of the pelvic floor musculature along with a comprehensive musculoskeletal assessment. Screening the whole body allows for a holistic approach which can identify any movement dysfunction that may be contributing to pelvic floor symptoms.

What to Expect in a Pelvic Floor Therapy Session

Your first pelvic floor treatment is primarily an evaluatory session designed to identify the root cause of your symptoms and build a personalized care plan. It typically lasts about 60-75 minutes and takes place in a private, quiet room. The session begins with an in-depth conversation about your medical history and current symptoms.

Be prepared to discuss:

  • Bladder and Bowel Habits: Frequency of urination, leakage, or constipation.
  • Medical History: Past surgeries, pregnancies, or injuries.
  • Daily Lifestyle: Your diet, hydration, exercise routines, and stress levels.
  • Personal Goals: What you hope to achieve, such as returning to high-impact sports or reducing pain.

Your therapist will assess how your entire body moves, as pelvic issues are often linked to other areas.

This includes:

Postural Screening: Observing how you sit, stand, and breathe.

Functional Testing: Checking your strength and range of motion in your hips, lower back, and core through movements like squats or lunges.

Pelvic Floor Muscle Assessment

A physical exam of the external and internal pelvic muscles may be recommended to assess muscle tone, strength, and coordination.

External Assessment: Palpating the muscles of the abdomen, inner thighs, and superficial pelvic area.

Internal Assessment: If you consent, the therapist may use one gloved, lubricated finger to feel the muscles internally (vaginally or rectally). It is important to emphasize that an internal assessment is entirely optional and is never a requirement for receiving effective pelvic floor therapy. Your physical therapist is there to support your goals, and make you feel safe, respected, and in control.

At the end of the visit, your therapist will explain their findings using anatomical models and outline your treatment plan.

How to Prepare

What to Wear: Choose comfortable, flexible clothing like, yoga pants, or athletic shorts that allow for easy movement.

Don't Worry About: Being on your period or recent bowel movements; these do not prevent an exam if you are comfortable proceeding.
